This proposed walk/cycle way sits under the deck of the clip-on, it has a number of distinct advantages:
- it could be made wide enough to serve as a shared pedestrain and cyclists path, thus halving the cost of the entire project
- it does not require heavy (concrete) barriers to provide physical separatation from vehicle traffic
- it does not require reconfiguration of the existing traffic lanes (and the associated cost of deck strengthening)
- it does not add windage to the existing structure or put loading on the box construction of the clip-ons
- it uses the south-bound clip-ons, which has greater loading capacity due to the lesser number of loaded heavy trucks travelling south over the Bridge
- it is sheltered from the traffic emissions and weather yet still allows views of the harbour
- it does not obstruct motorists views of the harbour
- it is asethetically pleasing
- the gradient is an easy 5% and the clearance for ships navigating under the bridge is unaffected
- security can be provided with CCTV's, Westhaven Marina security staff and Police from the Traffic Control station on Northcote Point
