It's time to Get Across our Harbour Bridge by foot and bike!

Read about what a wonderful experience is to cycle the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco and imagine having the same opportunity in Auckland!

Unfortunately the NZ Transport Agency (NZTA) have broken their promises and provided distorted information in order to sabotage the provision of a walkway and cycleway on the Auckland Harbour Bridge.

An example is their repeated assurances that the provision of the walkway and cycleway was being future-proofed with the strengthening project of the clip-on lanes currently underway.

However, when it came time to proceed with the preferred option for the walkway and cycleway (as recommended by the Study's working group), the NZTA dropped their bombshell... a confidential report to the NZTA Board that claimd that the walkway and cycle way would significantly shorten the service life of the clip-ons due to loading capacity.

But this claim is based on a consultant's letter that is self described as a "rough assessment" and "the reliability of such projections beyond 10 years or so is unknown".  Furthermore the letter was requested by NZTA to support a board paper already written - they even asked the consultant to backdate his letter!  NZTA also told Beca off if they were proved information that wasn't help to terminating the walk/cycleway study.

And this e-mail shows how NZTA withheld loading capacity information from Maunsells, the consultants doing the walk/cycle way study.
